More Lies from the Huckster

September 3, 2008

Mike Huckabee just said John “nations don’t invade other nations” McCain helped provide him with a schooldesk, implying that the American invasion and mass murder in North Vietnam was in defense of freedom. The evil neocons have never seen an act of American aggression they didn’t like.

Obama-Biden

August 23, 2008

Barack Obama, the candidate of change who will bring us out of the depths of hell into an eternal state of euphoria, has chosen as his running mate the war supporting, surge loving, government school worshipping, gun hating, PATRIOT Act endorsing, Sudan saving, Israel devoting, Iran sanctioning, Cuba embargoing, and overall champion of big government and the status quo Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, John McCain is surpassing Obama in the polls, despite his unwavering support for war criminal George Bush and his hilarious remark that “in the 21st century nations don’t invade other nations.” On second thought, I guess that’s more sad than hilarious.

The best choice you can make on election day is abstaining from voting altogether. In fact, you have a better shot of winning the lottery (I do not advocate buying a government lottery ticket, by the way) than making a difference in the election. And that’s assuming the votes are counted accurately.

Faux News Inadvertently Spreads Truth

…About Russia/Georgia conflict:

I’m sure Fox will learn its lesson next time not to let those pesky truth tellers on the air again.

Libertarians Must Always Oppose War

August 12, 2008

Everyone who does not have a ravenous appetite for death and destruction should oppose war. And libertarians especially should oppose war because it is the most destructive thing a government can do both economically and morally.

From an economic standpoint, wars are extremely expensive. The war in Iraq has already cost untold billions, and may cost $3 to $5 trillion when the dust settles. Those concerned about inflation should look no further than the warfare-welfare state for the main culprit.

From a moral standpoint, war is funded via outright theft and the result is usually thousands if not millions of innocent deaths. Houses are blown up, families are separated, and citizens are often forced to flee the country. Unfortunately, the media usually turns a blind eye to the resulting chaos. Back home, Americans salute the flag and grovel at the feet of the contracted killers known as soldiers.

The reasons to oppose war are limitless, but the economic and moral arguments highlighted above are some of the most obvious.

This Is Not Capitalism

August 11, 2008

Bank bailouts, oversight of the financial markets, burdensome regulation, and corporatism are not components of capitalism. What we have now is a system that Ludwig von Mises explained much more elegantly than I will:

  1. The government intervenes in the economy.
  2. Things get f***ed up.
  3. The government blames greedy capitalists.
  4. The sheep believe it.
  5. The government f***s things up even more.
  6. Repeat ad infinitum.

On Democracy

July 31, 2008

Why does the word “democracy” have a positive connotation? Why do people always lament that George Bush has “undermined our democracy?” (After all, the democratic system elected him twice.) And when mentioning such issues, why do people use the phrase “our democracy?” It’s not mine. I never signed up to be part of a majority rule coercive system. And why are democracy and freedom synonymous in many people’s lexicons? Democracy and freedom are incompatible and should be viewed as such.

Minimum Wage Raised, More Unemployment Sure to Follow

July 26, 2008

The minimum wage just went up again to $6.55 per hour thanks to the omniscient planners in Washington. With the shaky U.S. economy already about to topple over, this increase could not come at a worse time. And at this time next year, when things could be much worse, the minimum wage is set to increase to $7.25/hour.

Just by stopping and thinking for a second, one should conclude that the new minimum wage will create unemployment for those whose market wage falls below the government-mandated price floor of $6.55/hour. Therefore, the poor suffer the most from this madness. Try to explain this simple logic to a statist and he will most likely reply with something entirely nonsencial.

Yes We Can…Have One-World Government

July 24, 2008

In Berlin during his Pander Around the World Tour, Barack Obama told a large audience of gullible state worshippers that “America cannot do this alone” and that people around the world must “stand as one,” which is political speak for one-world government.

If Obama’s wishes come to fruition, will there be any corner of the earth where we will be able escape this universal tyranny? Maybe anarchists around the world should pool their money together to build a spacecraft that can launch us away from this awful place.

We All Scream for Lower Ice Cream Prices!

July 23, 2008

I was eating store-bought ice cream earlier and realized that not only are prices rising, but the container is also getting smaller. Many name brands are now sold in 1.5 quart containers. Back in the day ice cream was sold in half gallon containers, and a few years ago they made the change to 1.75 quarts. Now, it’s down to 1.5 quarts.

First Big Pharma and Big Oil, now Big Ice Cream! I urge you to write your Congressman and demand they pass a windfall profits tax on ice cream companies before the August recess.

(End sarcasm)

Introduce a Little Anarchy

July 23, 2008

The Dark Knight is probably the best comic book movie I’ve ever seen and one of the best crime dramas I’ve ever seen. I am not really a fan of comic books, but this movie existed on its own as a cinematic masterpiece.

While both libertarian and neoconservative interpretations exist for this movie, I was in too much awe to really contemplate the underlying meaning, although as a libertarian I am more inclined to accept the former. All I can say right now is go see the movie.
